Cologne - This is a feat: In a furious protest against police brutality have gays and lesbians over the years made a joyful demonstration for equal rights and tolerance.
Welcome to Jubilee CSD: This year is the 40th Birthday - celebrated in Cologne next weekend under the motto: "Our freedom is history." The highlight is, as always, the parade on Sunday (start: 12 clock).
The history of the CSD begins on 28 June 1969, when defending the guests of the New York bar Stonewall Inn "for the first time against the police raids. In Cologne, there is on the 4th July 1981 the first "Gay Freedom Day", from 1991 the CSD is regularly held on the first weekend in July.
Bigger, more colorful, more strident than one would have imagined that 40 years ago - this year there are again 90 vehicles and Fußgruppen. Feathers and leather and lots of bare skin - since spilling an entire portion of "Carnival in Rio" by Koelle.
Even many large companies like Ford or Ikea are about to have their own floats, as well as the political parties. And the police will celebrate with us.
